I began teaching Fiction workshops in 2009 with The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis. Since 2013, I’ve been teaching Fiction and Creative Writing with the wonderful and legendary Gotham Writer’s Workshop. Since 2018, I’ve been running courses in Upstate, NY, under the Aspiring Writer Syndrome brand, usually in Kingston. Some day soon I may offer Instructional Retreats out of our barn in Olivebridge!
Winter 2020 Courses
In January 2020, I’m teaching Fiction 1
at Gotham HQ, 8th Ave & 38th Street, on Tuesday afternoons from 2:00 to 5:00.
I’m also leading a Just-Write class, also at Gotham HQ, Tuesdays 10:00 AM to 1:00. What’s a Just Write? It’s light on instruction but heavy on inspiration. You gather with a group of writers once a week for three hours and work on a project of your choosing. I’m there to offer short instruction, guidance, discussion, and accountability. Whether you’re charging through a rough draft or refining your work, you’ll find this a valuable time to get something done.
I also work with writers individually, providing manuscript assessments and feedback. In 2019, I worked with three novelists to assess and help plan their book-length fictions in progress. If you’re interested in working with me, please visit this page
and ask for me by name.
